The Village Gourmet
Reviewed by: www.beekmanwine.com Village Gourmet is celebrating its 10th anniversary. It’s an unusual
restaurant, with a liquor store in the middle of the restaurant (You
may still bring your own). The food here is very good. Many of the
dishes are blackened (Cajun-style). Many of the others come fairly
spicy, but they will adjust the heat if that’s not to your liking. The
fare is quite eclectic so there’s something for everyone. The Filet
Mignon and Swordfish that we tried were excellent: remarkably moist and
tender.
Mignon Steakhouse
Reviewed by: Emmy Needham, The Jersey JournalWhen you're dining at a good restaurant, little things can mean a lot. At Mignon Steak House in Rutherford, for example, drinking water is served in stemmed glasses - a nice touch (although I prefer a proper water glass). The stemware is also at the ready for those who bring their own wine. If you forget, a sister restaurant across the street, The Village Gourmet, with its own in-house wine/liquor store, is buzzed via computer, and presto, a delivery is made. Mignon (from filet mignon rather than French) is a small but lovely restaurant, seating about 35 people. It is a treat to the eyes as well as to the palate. There are floor-to-ceiling windows, an interior carved wooden screen and a general aura of neat, clean casualness - the kind of casualness that is the result of careful planning and hard work. Mignon Steakhouse
Reviewed by: www.beekmanwine.comAs its name implies, Mignon is a beef oriented restaurant. They offer mostly grilled versions of lamb, veal, pork chops. They also offer shrimp, scallop, lobster, and King Crab legs. But beef is their heart and soul. The entrées range from New York Strip Steak and Petite Mignon to a 40 oz Porterhouse that will serve two or more. All the beef is aged on the premises. Interesting steak sauces include wild mushroom demi-glace, mint cream, and green peppercorn. Vegetables are a la carte. |
